What do you think?

I can't remember where, but I heard this quote a few weeks ago:
Small towns breed small minds.
What do you think?
What exactly does a "small mind" look like?
Would you or I know if we had a small mind?
What is the opposite of a small mind?

Hopefully I'm understanding your questions, but here's what I think :)

Sometimes I think that it's a good thing that we have "small minds." Let me explain. In every context I've heard that quote, it's usually meant as an insult like - "oh you can't accept that lifestyle/people group/politician/law - small towns breed small minds." Sometimes I think it's okay that we don't "accept" everything. Sometimes you can't be politically correct and still have a conscience!

On the other hand, small minds are not always a good thing. Just because you grew up poor in the sticks doesn't mean you shouldn't aspire to be a doctor and go off to a great college. And sometimes I think that is the case. People assume that because their parents didn't do something, or their siblings, or whatever, that they can't either. That, I think is sad and should be taken as a wake up call.

I'm not really sure if we "know" per say that we have small minds. I think politically, I know when someone THINKS I have a small mind (even when I think they're just overly-tolerant. You can't throw everything in your house in the toilet just so you're not discriminating - it won't flush LOL) but I think there is always room for growth as far as our dreams, goals, and aspiration for life.

All in all, I'm not sure what I think exactly on this topic... But I'm from T-Town so maybe I just have a small mind :P
